Chris Haughton is a must-have on anybody’s bookshelf. His stand-out use of colour and shape paired with his design background adds to a visual language that is unmistakably his.
Many of his books use dialogue to deliver the narrative, married with pictures that either complement or juxtapose the spoken word.
I remember hearing a podcast where he talked of his interest in mime. It’s clear, when you read his books, that this has had a huge influence on his work.
Haughton’s picturebooks stand up to repeat readings, entertaining both adult and child. From the titles I’ve read, each and every one is relatable on a dual level. His dynamic use of compositions are both considered and engaging, sometimes offering up new insights through multiple readings.
As you can probably gather from the way I write about his work, I’m a huge fan! There’ll certainly be more of his books on Emma Reads and I can’t wait for you to enjoy ‘Oh No George!’
