Hello Picturebook friends, Holly here. I thought I would pop on and share some tips on drawing one of my favourite things so that they could perhaps become one of your favourites too!
Horses feature regularly in my picture book work and this week saw the cover reveal of my next book, The Horse Dreamer which prompted me to dig out some lovely how-to videos I made which I hope will help to demystify the subject or at least untangle some legs for you!
There’s so much to love about including horses in your picture book ideas. They are playful, colourful, dynamic characters that lend themselves beautifully to whimsical narratives such as one of my favourites, Merrylegs by Pam Smy.
AND if you really can’t get your head wrapped around all the angles of the lower leg and hoof, just make it a hairy horse which essentially eliminates all of this as they look like they are wearing flare trousers on each leg (google Clydesdale Horse)!
If you’d like to see more drawing horses videos, including drawing the full body, you can find them HERE.
Before I forget, there’s a Nest Friends Co-Working session on NEXT Thursday, 20th March 2pm gmt. The perfect place to practice your drawing, or simply have company whilst you work on your own thing. We’ll share the link very soon!
Happy drawing!
